Chiropractic Care
The goal of chiropractic care is to allow the body to feel better with less pain! That means to move better, function better, have greater energy, boost the immune system, promote better sleep and improve overall health.
Chiropractic treatments are designed to improve the alignment of the spine, ease muscle tension and stiffness, relieve pressure on nerves, decrease inflammation, and improve range of motion and flexibility.
We help all ages with chronic pain conditions or symptoms whether they have appeared recently, after a fall, sports injury, work injury, motor vehicle accident, or that you may have had for years, but all of a sudden seemed to be much worse.
Chiropractic treatment can help relieve your symptoms naturally. Contact us if you're ready to schedule an appointment.
Answers to frequently asked questions here.
Chiropractic for Adults
Chiropractic focuses on reducing the impact of tension, stress and injury in the body. Often, we do not feel pain until our body is in deep distress, so chiropractors work to identify, eliminate and rehabilitate the source of your condition while giving you tools and advice to use in the future in order to stave off future episodes. Chiropractic care is a safe and effective way to feel good, naturally.
Chiropractic for Pregnancy and Mothers
Growing a baby is hard work! A woman’s body changes very rapidly during this time often resulting in mid and low back pain, pelvic joint and pelvic ring pain (pubic symphysis), groin pain, leg pain or restless legs. Research has shown that receiving chiropractic care during pregnancy reduces pregnancy pain, and can result in a reduction of labour time and complications.
Dr. Alana Nicholls and Dr. Kate McKenzie have obtained extensive additional educational coursing to better elevate the standards of care specific to pregnancy and postpartum women. Dr. Alana Nicholls is Grow Co trained and Dr. Kate McKenzie is trained in the Webster Technique.
Chiropractic for Children and Infants
For babies, the length and difficult labours, induced labours, C-section, vaccuum or forceps extraction, or having a shoulder caught during delivery can all cause spinal or nervous system trauma. This can show up as excessive crying, arching the spine, colic, GERD, ear infections, favouring a side for breast feeding on inability to latch well on one side, a flat spot on a baby’s head due to the head being tipped or turned to one side, to name a few.
Chiropractic treatments for children and infants is extremely gentle, often using no more force than checking the ripeness of a tomato with your fingertips. Siblings argue over who is going to get checked first and babies often sleep right through their treatments.
Chiropractic for Teens
Teens today are under incredible amounts of stress and just like adults, this stress gets stored in the body. Chiropractic care during this time or rapid growth and development helps with good posture, reduces stress, alleviates neck and back pain, headaches, and improves mood, sleep, focus and sports performance.
Chiropractic for Seniors
Studies show that the use of regular chiropractic care by seniors contributes to a large reduction in number of falls and the use of both over the counter and prescription medications, whose side effects can contribute to more falls, confusion and the addition of further medications.
Chiropractic for Athletes
Athletes are subject to intense physical stresses and young athletes should be under a regular chiropractic care to prevent those stresses and injuries from accumulating into larger problems as they age.
Chiropractic care for the athlete focuses on maximizing spine and joint function, muscular balance, flexibility and injury prevention as well as rehabilitation so that smaller injuries do not accumulate into larger, damaging conditions.
Low Force and Gentle Chiropractic
There are many techniques that chiropractors can choose to utilize as part of their chiropractic practice. Most people are familiar with the technique most often shown on TV; it is effective and is associated with the popping sound you may hear.
However, there are many chiropractic techniques that are considered “low force” and are very gentle in their application. Some use a hand-held instrument, while others use padded blocks or rolls that you lie on for a few minutes. There is a technique that uses a table that lightly lifts and falls as the adjustment is given, while others are focussed around a light finger contact holding sustained pressure.
The chiropractors at Shift are trained in a variety of chiropractic techniques. We will work with you to achieve the best results.
